Yellow Headed Parrot Rehabilitaion

TIDE ranger Andrew Williams has several reasons to be happy today. Alongside Mario Muschamp - TIDE Terrestrial Manager and Leonard Williams - TIDE Ranger, and staff from Belize Bird Rescue he is releasing six Yellow Headed Parrots into an enclosure at Payne's Creek National Park (PCNP). Yellow headed parrots are an endangered sub-species of parrot endemic to PCNP. A large part of TIDE's work in PCNP involves an effort to increase the population of these birds.

5 reasons to clean your waterways TIDE and the surrounding schools are taking part in the International Coastal Clean Up on the 18th and 19th of September. The coastal clean is the world’s largest volunteer effort to remove litter from beaches and waterways. Last year almost 2000 people removed of trash from more than 27 miles of coastline around Belize.

Satellite tagging a hawksbill The Ridge to Reef expedition team successfully satellite tagged a critically endangered hawksbill sea turtle on West Snake Caye in Port Honduras Marine Reserve (PHMR) during the early hours of 23rd August 2014.

Goliath Grouper Research in PHMR A recent study was carried out at TIDE by Science Director, James Foley, and Research Assistant, Marty Alvarez, to determine the current status of Goliath groupers in Port Honduras Marine Reserve (PHMR), Toledo.  Data from 2014 was compared with studies conducted by Rachel Graham in 2007-2010 to determine impacts of fishing on Goliath grouper, and to inform national policy on this IUCN listed critically endangered species.

Monkey River

Monkey River is a fishing village located on the coast of Port Honduras Marine Reserve (PHMR) and bordered by Payne’s Creek National Park (PCNP). The village has a tight-knit community of around 150 inhabitants and is well known for its river tours and fishing tours due to its position on the mouth of the Monkey River.
