Mr. Requena joined TIDE in 2008. From San Pedro Columbia (now living in Punta Gorda), he’s fluent in Spanish and Ke’chi Maya. He graduated from University of Belize with a degree in Natural Resource Management and completed a certificate in bird ecology & botany. Elmar’s vast experience includes outreach for the Wildlife Conservation Society, monitoring terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and projects on behalf of other universities and NGOs. Elmar won a Conservation Leadership Program grant in 2013 and heads up the CLP Hicatee Research and Education Group Team. Growing up on a family farm, he has an understanding of agriculture and biodiversity conservation key pillars in participatory community Natural Resources Management.
