Mrs. Mahung is an educator, community leader, conservation activist, and champion of women’s and children’s rights. She was born and raised in the Toledo District, where she resides today with her husband Paul and their three children. Celia’s early career was in education.

Aaron Garbutt is from Monkey River village and has been on staff 2.5 years. He started at TIDE right after high school and loves the opportunity to meet new people and ensure that fisheries and habitat are protected into the future.

Andrew Williams

Andrew Williams

Norman Andrew Williams joined TIDE as a Payne’s Creek Ranger in 2010 after volunteering with us as a community researcher from the age of 15. In 2016 he transferred to TIDE's Private Protected Lands and became the Head Ranger there. He feels his place within the NGO has helped him build his character, mind and confidence.

Caroline Oliver

Caroline Oliver

Ms. Oliver earned a degree in Environment, Economics & Ecology from the University of York,  her MSc in Conservation & Tourism from Durrell Institute of Conservation and Environment, and is a SCUBA Divemaster.  Caroline (Caz) was a marine scientist and project leader in the Bahamas and has done field work in a national park in Rwanda (economic evaluation of tourism strategy) before doing a development internship with TIDE in 2013.

Danny Hun

Finance Manager

Danny Hun

Mr. Hun graduated from University of Belize with a degree in business management. Responsible for internal financial management, he works with the accountant to generate financial reports and inquiries for funders, the board of directors, and management team. Danny keeps record of all financial transactions and assists with annual audits, maintains comprehensive financial files for each program area, and maintains inventory of the assets of the institution.

Delbert Pop

Delbert Pop

Delbert Pop traveled all over Belize with the Belize Defense Force for 3 years before joining the TIDE ranger staff. He feels law enforcement is important for protecting our natural resources and is happy to bring his training to bear on patrols on the TIDE Private Protected Lands. He appreciates the training TIDE provides, such as GIS/mapping and SCUBA, too.  He has one young son and lives in San Marcos village in Toledo.

Delonie Forman

Ms. Forman started volunteering for TIDE in 2005 with a passion for eco-tourism and the environment. 3 months later she joined staff as scholarship coordinator and executive secretary then became tourism coordinator for TIDE Tours. A 3-year break for Tourism Management studies and added tourism exposure led to her becoming TIDE Tours’ Manager.

Edwin Cabrera

Edwin Cabrera has been a TIDE ranger for 6 years. He joined TIDE directly after high school where he studied architecture. Edwin is fluent in Spanish and has a passion for working closely with fishermen to convey regulations. He’s happy to see how attitudes have gradually shifted toward sustainable use. He grew up fishing with his family and has an intimate knowledge of the marine reserve.

Elmar Requena

Elmar Requena

Mr. Requena joined TIDE in 2008. From San Pedro Columbia (now living in Punta Gorda), he’s fluent in Spanish and Ke’chi Maya. He graduated from University of Belize with a degree in Natural Resource Management and completed a certificate in bird ecology & botany. Elmar’s vast experience includes outreach for the Wildlife Conservation Society, monitoring terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and projects on behalf of other universities and NGOs.

Mr. Foley is originally from the UK and has an MSc in Tropical Coastal Management from Newcastle University in Britain. James worked as research director then executive director for Roatán Marine Park Association in Honduras and as a teacher at University of Victoria before joining TIDE in 2011 to direct the research and monitoring program.

James Lord

Dr. Lord first visited Belize at age 19 through Raleigh International where he was inspired by the beauty of Belize and also deeply affected by damage to the coral reef. Because he was motivated to offer alternatives to solve environmental problems, he studied economics, ecology, and agriculture, getting his PhD in organic agriculture. After working as a development officer for Ya’axché ConservationTrust, he joined TIDE.

Joseph Villafranco

Joseph Villafranco

Mr. Villafranco, a Belize native, graduated with honors with a BSc in General Biology from the University of Belize in 2003. He joined TIDE as a marine biologist but after realizing his true passion is terrestrial ecology, took on the responsibility of successfully coordinating the TIDE Freshwater Program and then TIDE Private Protected Lands.

Mr. Cruz joined TIDE’s Education and Outreach team in 2015. He is from Sarteneja, a fishing village in Northern Belize and has studied in both Belize and in Mexico, possessing Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Education. Mario Muschamp

Mario Muschamp

Mr. Muschamp is TIDE’s longest tenured staff, starting as a ranger in 1999.  Mario was previously a fisherman and tour guide and uses his experience in both marine and terrestrial environments, as well as expertise in bird identification, to manage Payne’s Creek National Park and all terrestrial staff.

Martin Ack

Mr. Ack was born and raised in the Ke’kchi Maya village of San Miguel and readily shares his knowledge of Maya culture with TIDE Tours guests. He sees his role as steward of our natural resources and he loves sharing his passion for conservation with others. He graduated from the Toledo Community College science department then worked as a lab technician at a shrimp farm for 6 years.

Marty Alvarez

Mr. Alverez was born in Belmopan and got his BSc in Natural Resource Management from the University of Belize, where he teaches part-time today (conservation development and marine ecology classes). Marty has volunteered for Ya’axche’ Conservation Trust and the Environmental Research Institute. While volunteering at TIDE, he wrote a literature review for hicatee and was selected for the Conservation Leadership Programme.

Narciso Martinez

Narciso Martinez was a fisherman for over 20 years before he joined TIDE as a ranger 5 years ago. He has working knowledge of both the marine reserve and local fishing practices. He’s motivated by a deep love of the sea and a passion for educating others on sustainable use. Narciso was originally from Puerto Barrios Guatemala and is fluent in Spanish.

Norman Budna

Mr. Budna, a native of Big Falls Village, joined TIDE in 2005. He graduated from St. Peter Claver College and the Belize College of Agriculture. Norman has worked with a number of local and international NGO’s, government projects, and communities throughout Belize on social and economic issues.  He has experience as a community project & field supervisor and as a public relations person.

Mr. Etienne has worked for TIDE for over 5 years. He is responsible for all of the organization's media communications as well and video production and website maintenance. After receiving a Beng in Communications Systems Engineering at the University of Portsmouth he travelled the world for a few years working as a Scuba Instructor fixing computers in his spare time.

Santiago Cucul

Santiago Cucul is from Punta Gorda. After doing an apprenticeship man in Placencia, he traveled all over Belize doing electrical and plumbing work. Five years ago he became a ranger for TIDE and loves his job. Driving the boat up the Rio Grande, camping in the jungle and hearing a tapir stamp its feet or a jaguar roar, heading out on night patrols in the rain . . . Santiago loves it all. He lives with his wife and two babies.

Victor Bonilla has been a ranger on TIDE’s Private Protected Lands since March 2015. From Indian Creek Village, Mr. Bonilla formerly worked as a ranger at Ya’axche Conservation Trust for 9 years. During this time he developed a strong interest in birds, especially raptors or birds of prey. He now has 10 years of birding experience, which he brought with him to TIDE. Mr.
