Formed: July 2020.
GOAL: “To save wildlife, to protect the natural environment, and empower young people by developing their knowledge, skills, and confidence that channels their passion into positive and creative actions that help create a sustainable planet and inspire people to value nature.”
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
1) Patrols with their mounted unit during dry season, surveying for illegal activities.
2) Minimized misuse & general abuse of Aguacaliente, a nearby Wildlife Sanctuary.
3) Engaged members in TIDE’s outreach activities (Champions of the Reef Week Volleyball Competition 2022)
Group President – Melissa Villanueva:
“As many know our lagoon is known for the many fish that it provides and the sanctuary is also known for the main attraction of many bird species. We minimize the hunting of our iguanas as they are becoming an endangered species in our communities. We’ve been able to set up signs and stop outsiders from coming and extracting iguanas from our village and other wildlife from within the sanctuary.”
