Fisher Forum

Between March 2018 and March 2019 5 fisher forums were held. The primary objective of the forums (under the banner ‘Restoring Fisheries in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef Systems Project.’) was to give updates in regards to new managed access regulations, updates from the European Union Project and to hear concerns from fishers. Other objectives included giving a summary of the Market Catch Data being collected at the fish market and to summarize catch logbook data to the fishers.Most forums had around 30 participants (including representatives from the Fisheries Department, TIDE and the fishing communities. The meetings culminated with a national fisher forum where 125 participants met in Dangigra Town on January 31st 2019 to share and disseminate information.

In addition to these forums TIDE also conducted six focus groups and six boat to boat sessions.
