The 1st of March marked Ms. Celia Mahung’s last day with TIDE as the Executive Director.
Thank you, Ms. Celia Mahung, for the 16 years of extraordinary leadership, commitment and dedication to conservation and exceptional guidance in achieving TIDE’s mission.
Ms. Mahung has proven relentless in her leadership, progressing TIDE’s work in conservation and community development to the highest standards. Whilst being a supportive figure to her staff Ms. Mahung has transformed TIDE for the better, especially in her efforts to educate and empower the youth and women from across Toledo.
The valuable impact of Mrs Mahung’s work within our communities and environment is immeasurable. To name some of the impressive results from her leadership:
- Incorporated primary schools into the TIDE Freshwater Cup in 2007 (which has since won the Energy Globe National Award in 2015 and has been implemented in many other countries regionally).
- Starting TIDE’s Community Researcher Program, which has helped dozens of Belizean youths work professionally as a part of TIDE’s Research and Monitoring Program, and progress into many diverse careers in Belize.
- Incorporating Port Honduras Marine Reserve into the Managed Access Program in partnership with the Belize Fisheries Department in 2011.
- Establishing TIDE’s Fire Management Program. The experienced TIDE team train fire crews throughout Belize sharing their wisdom and knowledge gained through over a decade of training and implementation.

Thank you Ms. Celia! You will be sorely missed – but will always be a part of the TIDE family!
