SMART for Biological Monitoring

SMART for Biological Monitoring Workshop @Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge, Costa Rica

Cecilia Guerrero (TIDE”s Sapodilla Caye Marine Reserve Manager) attended a four-day workshop with a practical session alongside workshop participants from government agencies and NGOs from Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Dominican Republic. All levels of conservation staff were present including directors, protected area managers, rangers, office staff.

This participatory workshop which was held at the Tortuguero National Park in Costa Rica in early June 2023 focused on the use and management of the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART).

The workshop was part of the Biodiversity Program Linking the Central American Landscape being implemented jointly with the IUCN. The project aims to strengthen the capacities of managers of protected areas in the use of SMART.

The workshop was a continuation to the Biological Monitoring Workshop held in San Salvador, El Salvador in December 2022.
