Seasonal avian field technicians (2) needed for a study on the effects of forestry on birds at Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area (RBCMA). The field season will be from November 2024 through April 2025.
A lead field technician and an assistant field technician will be hired by Programme for Belize (PfB), who manages RBCMA. Successful applicants will work independently and with rangers to conduct a constant-effort mist-netting study, to track wood thrush using radio telemetry, and to collect vegetation data. While preexisting skills are preferred, on-the-job training will be available. Competitive pay is included, and room and board will be provided by PfB at Hill Bank Field Station.
Required Skills:
- Able to work early mornings and long hours
- Able to work in rough terrain, off trail, and in hot conditions
- Attention to detail
- Able to work independently or as a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Able to identify the forest birds of Belize
- Experience with mist nets and bird banding
- Experience with radio telemetry and the attachment of nanotags
- Tree identification skills
