BNTU Teachers visit PHMR
๐๐ TIDE Welcomes BNTU to the Port Honduras Marine Reserve! ๐ข๐ฟ
We were thrilled to host a dynamic group of educators as part of the 55th Annual BNTU Convention, held under the powerful theme: โBNTU: Promoting Advocacy, Action and Accountability in Education!โ from April 4โ8, 2025, at the Punta Gorda Sports Complex.
On the final day of the convention, teachers had the opportunity to explore even more of Belizeโs cultural and natural gems. Whether it was crossing into Guatemala at the Jalacte border, hopping over to Livingston (La Buga) for a taste of Garifuna culture, chasing waterfalls at Rio Blanco, exploring ancient history at Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit Maya Ruins, or soaking up the sun on the cayes, the day was a perfect celebration of the beauty, history, and diversity that our region has to offer. ๐บ๐๐๐
As part of the weekโs activities, TIDE had the privilege of taking these passionate teachers on an immersive eco-tour of the Port Honduras Marine Reserve โ one of Belizeโs national treasures. ๐โจ
๐ค Stops included:
ย ๐ Abalone Caye Ranger Station โ where teachers learned firsthand about our enforcement and conservation efforts.
ย ๐ Punta Ycacos โ a breathtaking reminder of why protecting our coastal ecosystems matters.
ย ๐ West Snake Caye โ rich with marine biodiversity and stories of sustainable use.
ย ๐ Punta Negra โ the perfect place to end the journey with community insights and coastal charm.
Throughout the tour, the teachers gained valuable knowledge about TIDEโs ongoing work in marine conservation, research, community engagement, and environmental education โ and even got inspired to bring these lessons back to their classrooms! ๐๐
We thank the Belize National Teachersโ Union (BNTU) for embracing this blend of learning, exploration, and environmental stewardship with open hearts and curious minds.
TIDE hopes to collaborate more to empower our teachers to be advocates for both education and the environment!ย ๐ฟ๐งโ๐ซ๐
