The TIDE Freshwater Cup integrates football with environmental education. In order to participate, each team of school children must plan and implement an environmental project that benefits their community and protects freshwater resources.
The TIDE Fish Festival Weekend brings together over 1,000 people every October during the Pan American holiday weekend. It is a celebration of local culture and sustainable fishing that includes a fishing tournament, lionfish cook-up competition, theater and many other fun-filled activities.
Reef Week is an annual week that is celebrated nationally throughout Belize on March 9th-15th. TIDE participates through increased community outreach and education, utilizing fun festivities and projects for primary and secondary school students. We celebrate Reef Week to honor our historical and cultural connection to Belize’s Barrier Reef, to promote sustainable daily use of resources, and to foster the stewardship of land and sea which is necessary to keep the reef alive and healthy for generations to come.
Reef Week is made possible by OCEANA and Ecology Project International (EPI)
The TIDE Summer Camp gives 150 to 200 primary school children each year an opportunity to participate in educational outdoor activities. They learn to swim, develop teamwork skills and learn about their local environment. Each camp ends with a field trip to a local national park, fostering a love of nature and building environmental awareness.
