Summer Camp History:

TIDE has been hosting an annual summer camp since 2006; each year operates with a different theme. The objective of this annual camp is to encourage children to understand the concept of biodiversity and the role and importance of organisms within the environment. There is a particular emphasis on the terrestrial and marine ecosystems found within the Maya Mountain Marine Corridor (MMMC), during the summer camp.

The camp takes place in a number of communities in the Toledo District with over 150 children taking part every year. In order to successfully carry out the activities, TIDE engages volunteers from each of the communities including teachers and students from the University of Belize.

There are many different, fun activities which range from teaching children to swim, bird watching, photography, drama and the highly anticipated field trips. Children from inland communities get the opportunity to visit the Port Honduras Marine Reserve and those from coastal communities visit either Payne’s Creek National Park or the TIDE Private Protected Lands.
