Caroline Oliver
Program Director
Caroline (Caz) knew from a young age that her passion lay in wildlife and its protection. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environment, Economics and Ecology from the University of York (UK), and a Master’s degree in Conservation and Tourism from the Durrell Institute for Conservation and Ecology at the University of Kent (UK). As part of her studies, she conducted coral reef research in a marine reserve in the Bahamas and completed a valuation of tourism strategies in a national park in Rwanda. She returned to the Bahamas to work as a project scientist for 15 months, where she taught volunteers how to conduct coral reef surveys and was responsible for reporting research findings to the Bahamas National Trust.
In 2013, Caz volunteered at TIDE as a Development Intern, and fell in love with Belize. She returned to TIDE after her internship, to help develop TIDE’s Ridge to Reef Expeditions program in 2014. She focused on this program for two years, before taking on the role of Sales and Marketing Manager for TIDE Tours, where she was able to share her passion for Belize and education with travel planners from around the world. In 2019, she divided her time between TIDE’s educational tour programs, developing and leading educational trips in the field, and project management, managing one of TIDE’s large projects. Following the decline in tourism in 2020, Caz transitioned to a full-time role in project management, and was appointed as TIDE’s Program Director in 2021. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing project implementation, organizational and project budgets, meeting desired targets and objectives, and reporting to funders and TIDE’ Board of Directors.
Through her varied experiences at TIDE over the years, Caz has continued to be inspired by her dedicated team of colleagues and the rich diversity of southern Belize. At a time of unprecedented environmental change and challenges, she is humbled to be part of an organization that is leading the way in natural resource management and community participation in conservation.

Stephene Supaul
Operations Director
Proudly originating from the culturally diverse little town of Punta Gorda, is Stephene Supaul, TIDE’s Operations Manager. Though she majored in Biology and secured a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Belize, Stephene’s initial application for employment at TIDE was borne more so of a desire to remain in her hometown and so she ventured into the environmental sector. Thankfully for TIDE, as her years of employment grew, she found herself falling in love with her job and even more so, conservation. In her daily activities at TIDE, Stephene provides support and assists in the logistics of all TIDE undertakings; an efficient, background-operating figure at TIDE.
Nature inspires deep feelings of love in Stephene and she enjoys her job at this southern NGO because at the end of the day she is doing something different from the ordinary and all her efforts positively impact the people of Punta Gorda. She was very influenced by TIDE’s founder, Mr. Wil Maheia, someone who inspired in her a passion and loyalty to see TIDE’s work continue in Belize. Stephene admits to being a ball of energy and activity, and even when she’s not in office, she just can’t be still nor idle. Travel, seaside/riverside get-aways and her loved ones – particularly her nieces and nephews, are some of Stephene’s favs.

Alaine Noralez
Accounts Clerk
Alaine was born and raised in Punta Gorda, the most southern town by the sea. She attended primary and secondary schools before transitioning to Belize City for tertiary education at Saint John’s Junior College where she earned her Associate’s Degree. Working at TIDE is a source of pride for Alaine because not only was it birthed in her home district, but she states that the organization has proven to be a wonderful conservation entity that teaches sustainability and caring for resources, for the reef, to ensure continuity.
Her nonprofit work at TIDE gives her a sense of making a positive difference that impacts the community. Outside of work, reading and books bring enjoyment to Alaine because she gets to further expand her none-too-shabby vocabulary while well-spoken, knowledgeable people prompt her inspiration. There is a serenity that comes with admiring the night sky and the natural beauty of Toledo, and Alaine takes the time to be soothed by such simple pleasures.

Federico Caal
Education and Outreach Coordinator
Federico Caal
Education and Outreach Coordinator
A Pisces man, a Ketchi Maya man born in the beautiful village of Jalacte, is the self-description of TIDE’s very own Federico Caal, the Education Coordinator. A native of Toledo, he recalls following his father as he assisted international students with thesis development, and finding himself inspired by traditional Mayan medicine. This inspiration led to his studies in Natural Resource Management at the University of Belize. As a university student, Federico volunteered at TIDE Tours and at the TIDE Private Protected Lands, both of which influenced his realization that Toledo’s abundant flora and fauna needed protection and to do so, communities needed outreach efforts to inspire support and the creation of ambassadors.
On Graduating, he was approached to assist in the field of education, where he taught for 7 years before heeding the call of nature and returning to the field of conservation. in October 2016, Federico joined the wonderful team at TIDE as the Environmental Education Officer, a post that allows him to integrate his love of teaching, with sports (specifically football) to bridge the gaps in environmental education and make conservation efforts active within communities buffering the Protected Areas managed by TIDE. Federico is a very talkative, rather humorous individual who enjoys engaging with the general public, the media and donors, so his job with the organizations seems almost more hobby than actual work to him.
A feather moving with the flow of the ocean and the wind, a voice for the animals, plants and the environment- that is Federico Caal, or so he describes himself. He hopes to continue working with the TIDE team for another decade or so, and whatever he does after, he is hopeful it will include playing his favorite sport and passing along best practices to future generations.
